Vaiśampāyana said: Then trusted spies brought the news to the kings that the beautiful and fortunate Draupadī had got the Pāṇḍava-s as her husbands
वैशम्पायन ने कहा: तब भरोसेमंद जासूसों ने राजाओं को खबर दी कि सुंदर और भाग्यशाली द्रौपदी को पांडव-पति के रूप में मिल गए हैं
and that the great-souled one who had strung the bow and had pierced the target was Arjuna, greatest among those who are victorious and a mighty wielder of the bow and arrows.
और वह महान आत्मा जिसने धनुष पर प्रत्यंचा चढ़ाई थी और लक्ष्य को भेद दिया था, वह अर्जुन था, जो विजयी लोगों में सबसे महान और धनुष और बाण का एक शक्तिशाली धारक था।
The great-souled and strong one who had lifted up Śalya, the king of Madra, and had whirled him around and had frightened all men in the fight with a tree,

When they heard that Kuntī's and Pāṇḍu's sons had assumed the disguise of peaceful Brāhmana-s, those rulers of men were greatly surprised,

क्योंकि उन्होंने पहले सुना था कि कुन्ती और उसके पुत्रों को लाख के घर में जिन्दा जला दिया गया है। इसलिए मनुष्यों के उन शासकों ने उन्हें फिर से जन्मा हुआ माना।
Remembering the extremely cruel deed of Purocana, they cursed Bhīṣma and the Kaurava Dhṛtarāṣṭra.
पुरोचन के अत्यंत क्रूर कृत्य को याद करके उन्होंने भीष्म और कौरव धृतराष्ट्र को शाप दिया।

When the svayaṃvara was over, all the kings learnt that the Pāṇḍava-s had been chosen and returned the way they had come.
जब स्वयंवर समाप्त हो गया, तो सभी राजाओं को पता चला कि पांडवों को चुन लिया गया है और वे जिस रास्ते से आए थे उसी रास्ते से लौट गए।

on seeing that Arjuna, who was borne by white horses, had been chosen by Draupadī. Full of shame, Duḥśāsana softly spoke to him,

यद्यसौ ब्राह्मणो न स्याद्विन्देत द्रौपदीं न सः न हि तं तत्त्वतो राजन्वेद कश्चिद्धनंजयम्
"O king! If Dhanañjayā had not been disguised as a Brāhmaṇa, he would never have succeeded in obtaining Draupadī. No one recognized him because of that.
"हे राजन! यदि धनंजय ने ब्राह्मण का वेश नहीं बनाया होता, तो वह द्रौपदी को प्राप्त करने में कभी सफल नहीं होता। इस वजह से किसी ने भी उसे नहीं पहचाना।
I think destiny is supreme and human endeavours are fruitless. O brother! Cursed be our human endeavours when the Pāṇḍava-s are still alive."
मेरा मानना है कि नियति सर्वोच्च है और मानवीय प्रयास निरर्थक हैं। हे भाई! जब पांडव अभी भी जीवित हैं तो हमारे मानवीय प्रयासों को धिक्कार है।"

Thus conversing, they condemned the Purocana, and entered the city of Hastinapur, the poor minded.
इस प्रकार वार्तालाप करते हुए उन्होंने पुरोचन की निंदा की और दीन बुद्धि वाले हस्तिनापुर नगर में प्रवेश किया।

They were frightened and all their resolutions disappeared when they discovered that the immensely powerful sons of Pṛthā had escaped the fire and were allied with Drupada. They thought of Dhṛṣṭadyumna, Śikhaṇḍī and all the other sons of Drupada, all skilled in the art of war.

On learning that Draupadī had chosen the Pāṇḍava-s and that Dhṛtarāṣṭra's sons had returned in shame, their pride broken, Vidūra was very happy.
यह जानने पर कि द्रौपदी ने पांडवों को चुन लिया था और धृतराष्ट्र के पुत्र शर्मिंदा होकर लौट आए थे, उनका घमंड टूट गया था, विदुर बहुत खुश हुए।
O lord of the people! The kshatta went to Dhṛtarāṣṭra and said in great wonder, "The Kuru-s are prospering from good fortune."
हे प्रजापालक! क्षत्रिय धृतराष्ट्र के पास गए और बड़े आश्चर्य से बोले, "कुरु अच्छे भाग्य से समृद्ध हो रहे हैं।"
O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! On hearing this from Vidūra, Dhṛtarāṣṭra, the son of Vicitravīrya, was overjoyed and exclaimed, "What great fortune!"
हे भरत वंश के वंशज! विदुर से यह सुनकर विचित्रवीर्य के पुत्र धृतराष्ट्र बहुत प्रसन्न हुए और बोले, "कैसा महान भाग्य है!"

मन्यते हि वृतं पुत्रं ज्येष्ठं द्रुपदकन्यया दुर्योधनमविज्ञानात्प्रज्ञाचक्षुर्नरेश्वरः
In his ignorance, the king of men, who only possessed the eyesight of knowledge, had thought that Draupadī had chosen his eldest son, Duryodhana.
अपनी अज्ञानता में, मनुष्य के राजा, जिसके पास केवल ज्ञान की दृष्टि थी, ने सोचा था कि द्रौपदी ने अपने सबसे बड़े बेटे, दुर्योधन को चुना था।
He ordered that many ornaments be made for Draupadī and sent word to his son Duryodhana that Kṛṣṇā should be brought in.
उन्होंने आदेश दिया कि द्रौपदी के लिए कई आभूषण बनाए जाएं और अपने पुत्र दुर्योधन को संदेश भेजा कि कृष्ण को लाया जाए।
It was then that Vidūra told him that the Pāṇḍava-s had been chosen, that those warriors were all in good health and that they had been duly honoured by Drupada. They had many allies and relatives now, with large armies.
तब विदुर ने उन्हें बताया कि पांडवों को चुना गया था, वे सभी योद्धा अच्छे स्वास्थ्य में थे और द्रुपद ने उनका उचित सम्मान किया था। अब उनके पास बड़ी सेनाओं के साथ कई सहयोगी और रिश्तेदार थे।
Dhṛtarāṣṭra said: "Pāṇḍu's sons are dearer to me than they were to Pāṇḍu. O Vidūra! My joy is greater, now that I know that those brave Pāṇḍava-s are in good health, with friends.
धृतराष्ट्र ने कहा: "पांडु के पुत्र मुझे पांडु से भी अधिक प्रिय हैं। हे विदुर! अब जब मुझे पता चला है कि वे बहादुर पांडव अच्छे स्वास्थ्य में हैं, मित्रों के साथ हैं, तो मेरी खुशी बढ़ गई है।"

को हि द्रुपदमासाद्य मित्रं क्षत्तः सबान्धवम् न बुभूषेद्भवेनार्थी गतश्रीरपि पार्थिवः
O kshatta! Which king, deprived of fortune on earth and in search of power, would not desire to have an alliance with Drupada and his relatives?"
हे क्षत्त! पृथ्वी पर धन-संपत्ति से वंचित और शक्ति की खोज में कौन सा राजा द्रुपद और उसके रिश्तेदारों के साथ गठबंधन करने की इच्छा नहीं करेगा?"

वैशंपायन उवाच तं तथा भाषमाणं तु विदुरः प्रत्यभाषत नित्यं भवतु ते बुद्धिरेषा राजञ्शतं समाः
Vaiśampāyana said: When the king uttered such words, Vidūra replied, "O king! May this intelligence of yours last for a hundred years."
वैशम्पायन ने कहा: जब राजा ने ऐसे शब्द कहे, तो विदुर ने उत्तर दिया, "हे राजा! आपकी यह बुद्धिमत्ता सौ वर्षों तक बनी रहे।"
O ruler of the people! Then Duryodhana and Rādhā's son came to Dhṛtarāṣṭra and told him,
हे प्रजा के शासक! तब दुर्योधन और राधा के पुत्र धृतराष्ट्र के पास आए और उनसे कहा,
"We cannot speak in Vidūra's presence. We wish to speak to you in private. What do you want to do now?
"हम विदुर की उपस्थिति में बात नहीं कर सकते। हम आपसे अकेले में बात करना चाहते हैं। अब आप क्या करना चाहते हैं?"

सपत्नवृद्धिं यत्तात मन्यसे वृद्धिमात्मनः अभिष्टौषि च यत्क्षत्तुः समीपे द्विपदां वर
O father! Do you take the prosperity of your rivals to be that of your own? O supreme among men! You applauded them before the kshatta.
हे पिता! क्या आप अपने प्रतिद्वंद्वियों की समृद्धि को अपनी समृद्धि मानते हैं? हे मनुष्यों में श्रेष्ठ! आपने क्षत्ता से पहले उनकी सराहना की।
O one who is unblemished! You act one way when another needs to be done. O father! We must always act in a way so as to weaken their strength.
हे निष्कलंक! जब दूसरे तरीके की आवश्यकता होती है तो आप एक तरह से कार्य करते हैं। हे पिता! हमें हमेशा ऐसे कार्य करने चाहिए जिससे उनकी ताकत कमजोर हो जाए।

The time has come for us to counsel one another, so that they do not swallow us up, with our sons, armies and relatives."
समय आ गया है कि हम एक दूसरे को सलाह दें, ऐसा न हो कि वे हमें, हमारे बेटों, सेनाओं और रिश्तेदारों समेत निगल जाएं।”
